Newark International Airport
(EWR) is located in New Jersey, 16 miles (26 km) from Manhattan. Taxis
from EWR are readily available but tend to be expensive because Newark
is situated in the state of New Jersey and passengers going into New York
City are required to pay the round trip fare even if only travelling one
way. An alternative is The Olympia Trails bus service runs every 20 minutes
between 06:15 and midnight. This is probably the quickest as well as being
a fairly comfortable way to get into Manhattan as there is a bus lane
most of the way resulting in an easier journey.
There are three terminals at Newark Airport: Terminal A, Terminal
B and Terminal C. Each terminal has an upper departures level with facilities
for airline ticketing; a lower arrivals level for airline baggage claim
and ground transportation; and a ground level extending under the arrivals
and departures roadways and the main building itself. Terminal A with
27 gates and Terminal B with 23 gates branch out to three circular satellite
aircraft gate buildings designated as A-1, A-2, A-3 and B-1, B-2, B-3
respectively. International arrival gates are located in the B2 and B3
Satellites. Departing international flights may leave from Terminals A,
B or C. The free AirTrain operates between the three terminals and runs
every three and a half minutes between 05.00 and midnight. Outside these
hours, the AirTrain runs every 10-24 minutes.
All three terminals at EWR can boast a vast array of shops, services
and places to eat and drink. Such facilities are spread fairly evenly
between the terminals so the chances are that you will be able to find
what you are looking for at your own terminal. If this is not the case,
then the AirTrain is available for inter terminal transportation.
There are seven car rental companies serving Newark International
Airport. Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz and National are all located within
the airport, with Alamo and Enterprise to be found adjacent to the airport.
There are economy parking lots (G and H) located a couple of miles
from the main terminal buildings. There are complimentary courtesy buses
that transfer between Parking Lots G and H and Terminals A, B and C. Buses
run every 5 minutes from 5:00 AM to Midnight and every 10 minutes from
Midnight to 5:00 AM. Total travel time from Lots G and H to the terminals
is approximately 20 minutes, depending on traffic. |
