Nine passenger terminals are located around JFK International's Central Terminal Area. The terminals and corresponding parking lots are divided into four color-coded sections. The green quadrant contains Terminals 1, 2 and 3; the blue quadrant Terminals 4E and 4W; the orange quadrant Terminals 5, 6 and 7 and the red quadrant Terminals 8 and 9. This information is also posted on large color-coded signs on the approach to the central terminal area on both the Van Wyck and JFK Expressways.
There is a huge range of shops, restaurants, snack bars and service kiosks in each of the terminals at JFK International. Location maps are prominently displayed and for those wishing to visit a business in another terminal, the red, white and blue bus service connects all of them. Be advised, however, that during peak afternoon hours a round trip can take up to an hour.
There are five major car rental companies operating at JFK International Airport. The offices are located along the Van Wyck Expressway near the entrance to the airport. At each terminal's arrivals level (usually near the baggage carousel), there is either a rental car counter or courtesy telephone. Courtesy transport is available from each terminal to the rental car offices.
